Mary has come to our house several times for help with 2 different German Shepherd puppies. She is very generous with her time, we always go over, and is very enthusiastic about her work. She has a lot of experience and even as a lifelong dog owner I was overwhelmed at first at all the information, but as we progressed it started to make more sense.
Of course being local helps as well.
Mary is great with dogs. She knows dogs, and they respond to her. She helped us with our high-energy, nervous two-year-old golden.
She taught us techniques to calm him, get his attention, and handle distractions. Walks before training were impossible. Our dog was pulling and yanking us around.
Mary was able to teach us as well as the dog. We learned the mistakes we were making and how to get our dog to pay attention and listen.
Good morning from NC. I was a confident puppy this morning on the beach and walked by myself!! Thank you Ms Mary
This is Jude..he is a 9 month old black lab. When I was growing up a boy I wasn't allowed to have a dog. Later when my wife and I started a family we got two dogs a Golden and a Yellow Lab...they were wonderful family dogs..however, they were mainly my wife's and kids as I worked a lot of hours during those days...I am now 58 and I have had a life long dream of having my own dog. I got Jude as a 8 week old puppy and I was immeadiately in love. However, not too long after I thought maybe I had made a mistake. Jude was always very smart but he was also a handful. He had endless energy and started exhibiting bad behaviors. It was very upsetting to feel like I wasnt in control. I decided I needed help. That was when I found Mary and Shared Journeys Dog Training. Mary understands dogs and with her help and training techniques I was able to start training Jude to be the dog I have always dreamed of having. Most importantly Mary's training gave me the tools I needed to move forward...after every session I felt a renewed confidence and was able to put the training techniques to use in real world situations. At nine months old Jude is still a bit of a puppy and is also still very active. However, he is very obedient and is an angel in crowd settings. Jude and I receive compliments everywhere we go on how well behaved he is. I am posting this here to publicly thank Mary for helping me have the dog and companion of my dreams. I also encourage anyone who is considering dog training to hire Mary and Shared Journeys! Thank you, I am forever grateful!
Mary is AMAZING. Within one lesson my 8 year old Goldendoodle went from hyper, anxious and crazy to calm and focused. She is now half way through her training program and is much better at loose leash walking and verbal commands. Mary is professional and shows so much interest and care in my both my dogs. She is accessible all the time and even encourages us to text her with any questions or concerns. Each week we have an hour at home lesson and are left with specific tasks to perform with our dog. If we don't understand or get confused, she allows us to video her performing the task with our dog so we can refresh our minds through the week. She even offers to send videos to me if I text with a question! During our consents toon, Mary listened to our concerns about our dogs behavior and worked with us to come up with a program that fit our needs. I HIGHLY recommend Shared Journeys Dog Training to anyone who wants to have a better connection with their dog.
We hired Mary to help with our 4 month old Goldendoodle puppy and Mary's tools, patience, and direction has helped us tremendously!! Mary definitely knows dog training and helped us train our dog effectively. Our puppy is no angel- eating everything in sight and is very anxious, so we appreciated Mary's willingness to dig in to educate us on best methods and how to correct some things we weren't doing to benefit our puppy. I even appreciate what Mary does outside of the sessions, her welcoming first call and consult meeting, to always responding to our questions and calls, Mary goes above and beyond and you can tell she loves what she does and is super knowledgeable!! Would highly recommend her for your dog training!!!
Like many people during the pandemic I took advantage of my time at home and adopted a puppy. Keira is my first puppy and 3 weeks in I knew I needed assistance with her training. A quick search of local dog trainers led me to Shared Journeys. Mary was quick to respond and set up a meeting time. Over the next few weeks she would come over for one on one socially distant training. Mary was awesome to work with and broke down commands for both Keira and myself :). Mary will also give advice and suggest excursions to help socialize the dog. As a first time pet owner I found this information extremely valuable. After each lesson she left detailed notes of what we had worked on, and what I should do to prepare for the next session. The instructions were easy to follow and made training fun and stress free. Keira continues to gets compliments on her behavior and I owe it all to Mary at Shared Journeys. I highly recommend her training program!!
We adopted a one year dog from a shelter. It was quite clear we were in need of assistance with training him. He was strong minded and we wanted him to be able to be outside without a leash or rope. I found Mary at Shared Journeys online and gave her a call. She came to our house for a consultation and worked with us and Scooby. There was an immediate response. We followed all of the instructions Mary demonstrated and left for us. What an improvement in his behavior. We contacted Mary and had her come back for a 10 week program. Our instruction was interrupted by Covid but with social distancing we were able to resume our sessions. Our program is complete and our dog is very well behaved. He is leash free at our home and has visited the park without a leash as well. We have traveled across the country with Scooby traveling on hiking trails. We can't say enough about Mary. She is supportive and guides you thru any questions that you have. She observes you and your pet making adjustments when necessary to allow you the most benefit in your training. We highly recommend Mary and her program. We have an incredible bond with our dog and he is wonderful to be around. He is well behaved and listens to commands.
Thanks for checking in! Toby and I are doing well and all of the training and advice really helped up a lot! I will let you know if we need more training in the future. Cannot thank you enough!
Mary is a knowledgeable and caring trainer. We adopted a GSD and knew he had a few issues, but didn't realize how many, and how much anxiety he had. (Constant barking, overly excited, fear of doors, fear of wood, tile, vinyl floors, he didn't know how to use stairs, stressed in a vehicle, just to name a few). Immediately after the first session we saw improvement and he is responding well to her approach. Mary explains why we're doing something and what the expected outcome will be. Mary understands how to work with his issues and he's making great progress. We couldn't be happier with her services and the positive reinforcement she's providing our new shepherd.
